Steve James is a fifteen-year personal computer industry veteran with a unusual background. After receiving undergraduate and graduate degrees in Zoology from The University of Texas at Austin, Steve enjoyed the life of a field biologist for eight years in positions at Tracor, Inc., The Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept., The University of Texas Marine Science Institute, and finally Radian Corp. He performed numerous field surveys and wrote hundreds of pages of technical reports during this phase of his career. Smitten by personal computers, he purchased a CompuColor in 1978. He became a software entrepreneur by founding FYI, Inc. in 1981. The next ten years were an exciting ride on the software development roller-coaster. At FYI, Inc., Steve's title was President. However at one time or the other he performed every job at the corporation except actually coding the programs. His favorites were designing user interfaces and writing user's manuals.

Unable to rival Microsoft in sales, Steve closed FYI in 1991 and became Software Project Director for The Psychological Corporation. During his three year tenure at TPC, he and his teams developed seven strange yet wonderful psychological and educational testing programs. Steve sharpened his writing and editing skills on the user's manuals for these products. In February of 1994, he left the corporate maze of TPC and joined the freelance writers and consultants of the world.

Since starting SNJames Consulting, Steve has developed WWW home pages, provided research via the Internet on a wide variety of subjects, written business plans, marketing brochures, and user's manuals for clients. He has also performed endangered species surveys and wetlands determinations, for which he is paid for springtime walks through the beautiful Texas countryside. On top of all this, he sometimes finds time to race bicycles.
