Mark Gaither is a Software Engineer specializing in WWW standards and programming practices. Mark is currently a freelance consultant and an author. He co-authored The Foundations of WWW Programming with HTML and CGI from IDG Books which is now on the national computer booksellers list. He also just authored A 60 Minute Tutorial to Java for IDG books. He is currently writing a book for IDG Books titled WWW Programming Secrets.

While at HaL Software Systems in Austin, TX, Mark co-created the HTML Validation Service and HTML Check Toolkit. Both of these continue to foster the acceptance, teach the importance, and test current WWW standards. Mark is also working closely with the WWW Consortium (W3C) in Boston, MA, in the area of HTML standards and the creation of Web user demographics standards and protocols.

Mark served as one of the founding "Dr. Web" analysts where he answered technical queries about HTML from WWW neophytes world-wide. Mark is a co-founder and past Director of the Austin WWW Users Group, and is a current member of the Board of Directors of the Austin Area Multimedia Alliance. Finally, Mark graduated from Texas A&M University in 1990, with a BS in Computer Science. He is currently finishing up his Masters of Computer Science from TAMU.
